NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's hockey team have been honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game.
Sophomore forward Nick Marquis (Londonderry, NH/Valley Jr. Warriors-EJHL) has been named MASCAC Hockey Player of the Week, while senior goaltender Collin Tracy (Medford, MA/Medford HS) has been named MASCAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week. Marquis scored the game-winning goal in UMass Dartmouth's 2-1 win against Salem State Saturday in the battle for first place in the MASCAC. He played a major part in penalty killing effort in which UMass Dartmouth killed all five power play opportunities.
"Nick's goal was very important in determining the outcome of the game," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach John Rolli. "It was the game-winning goal. When you have a five minute power play, you want to score at least once, and that goal gave us a two-goal cushion. Our second power play unit of Marquis, (sophomore forward) Dave McDonald (Wakefield, MA/Valley Jr. Warriors-EJHL) and (junior forward) Mike Owens (South Boston, MA/Boston Jr. Bulldogs-EJHL) has accounted for three of our four power play goals this season."
Tracy stopped 28 of 29 shots to help lead UMass Dartmouth to the win against Salem State. He made several key stops and was named the second star of the game. In two games last week, Tracy posted a 2.02 goals against average and a .933 save percentage in two games.
"Collin Tracy has been nothing short of sensational all season long," said Rolli. "He's been at his best when we have been short-handed, and he has played a major role in our penalty killing success. He was very good while Salem State was on the power play, and he made two key stops after they had pulled their goalie in the final minute."
The Corsairs are now 4-1-1 and 2-0-1 in the MASCAC. They will return to action when they host Worcester State Thursday.
