"We played well enough to win," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "We didn't have a good first quarter, but we adjusted and played well in the second and third quarters, and it was good to come out with a win. We're still a young team, and Southern Maine is much improved. It's good to be 7-1 and 2-0 in the conference."

Southern Maine out shot UMD, 37-36.  Junior goalkeeper Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) made 15 saves for UMD, while Ryan Hatch made eight stops for USM.

UMD improved to 7-1 and 2-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while Southern Maine dropped to 4-4 and 0-2 in LEC play with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Massachusetts Maritime Wednesday evening. Southern Maine will visit Colby Wednesday.
