Just the second man to lead the UMass Dartmouth men’s lacrosse program, Kevin Mahoney '99 is entering his 12th season at the helm. He has led the Corsairs to 11 straight conference tournaments and an appearance in the 2004 ECAC Division III New England tournament.
Mahoney has compiled a career record of 90-83, including four consecutive campaigns with at least 10 victories. He is currently the program’s all-time wins leader, breaking the previous standard that was set by his predecessor, Jeff Feroce, on March 26, 2011 against Norwich University.
A tremendous recruiter and motivator, Mahoney has developed 18 All-Little East Conference selections, including six first-team recipients. He was selected by his peers as the Little East Conference Coach of the Year in 2004 and 2011.
In 2014, Mahoney led UMass Dartmouth to the most single-season victories (13) in program history, matching the previous standard set by the 2011 squad. The Corsairs earned the No. 3 seed in the 2014 Little East Men's Lacrosse Championship tournament with a conference mark of 5-2. Mahoney directed his charges to a 6-5 win over intra-state rival UMass Boston in the first round before being edged at Eastern Connecticut, 9-7, in the semifinals.
His 2011 squad went a school-record 13-4 and was 5-2 in Little East Conference play, tying for second place overall and earning the second seed in the LEC Tournament after defeating conference power Eastern Connecticut State for the first time ever.
A 1999 graduate of UMass Dartmouth, Mahoney was a standout player for the Corsairs in both men's lacrosse and football. Prior to succeeding Jeff Feroce as head coach, Mahoney served as Feroce's assistant for two seasons.
In addition to his work as an assistant at UMass Dartmouth, Mahoney served as head men's lacrosse coach at Bishop Connolly High School in Fall River in 2001 after a season as a volunteer men's and women's assistant lacrosse coach at Dartmouth High School. Mahoney was an assistant football coach for UMass Dartmouth during the 2002 season before taking a similar position at Seekonk High School.
As a student-athlete at UMass Dartmouth, Mahoney played football for the Corsairs from 1996 through 1999 and was selected as a team captain during his final season. He was a New England Football Conference First-Team offensive lineman in 1998 and a Second Team selection in 1999. He also played two years with the Corsairs' men's lacrosse team.
Mahoney currently teaches social studies at Diman Regional Vocational and Technical High School. Originally from Dix Hills, NY, Mahoney played lacrosse and football at Half Hollow Hills West High School.
