NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Senior attacker Josh Arsenault (Revere, MA/Malden Catholic HS) and junior attacker Nick Brett (Loudon, NH/Merrimack Valley HS/AIC) scored three goals apiece as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's lacrosse team defeated visiting UMass Boston, 14-6, in a Little East Conference game at Cressy Field on Senior Day Saturday.

Prior to the game, the Corsairs honored seven seniors-defensemen Paul Hanna (Sandwich, MA/Sandwich HS and Alex Parks (Norton, MA/Mansfield HS), midfielders Charles Spencer (Shrewsbury, MA/Shrewsbury HS), Paul Nunes (Mansfield, MA/Mansfield HS), Bobby Smith (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield HS) and Stephen Espinola (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS), and Arsenault.

The Corsairs opened the game rattling off four goals, featuring two from Arsenault, in the opening seven minutes of play. Beacons junior attacker Pat Driscoll (Hingham, MA/Hingham HS) stopped the UMD run with back-to-back goals in a thirty second span, making the score 4-2 with 4:41 left in the first quarter. UMD scored the next nine goals of the game, fueled by two-goal efforts from Brett and junior midfielder Christian Roberto (Wakefield, MA/Malden Catholic HS), to take a commanding 13-2 lead with 11:20 remaining in the third quarter. The Beacons added four straight goals late in the game, with three goals coming from junior midfielder Rob Uhrig (Boston, MA/Archbishop Williams HS). Freshman midfielder Torrey Savoie (Wilbraham, MA/Minnechaug Regional HS) netted the Corsairs final goal of the game, producing the 14-6 victory for UMD.

Eight different Corsairs scored a goal during the contest. Smith had two goals and an assist, while Espinola, sophomore attacker Brendan Dalton (Braintree, MA/Braintree HS), and freshman midfielder Dennis Healy (Hanover, MA/Hanover HS) each recorded a goal.

Uhrig led the Beacons offensively with three goals, while Driscoll notched two goals and freshman attacker Peyton McKechnie (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire HS) added one goal in the loss.

"We had 60 minutes of good lacrosse today," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "We came out hot in the first and second quarter and played well across the board. This was a good way to get us ready for the playoffs where we'll be playing some talented teams. We played a lot of reserve players in this game to get them some experience moving forward. This season has been one of our finest seasons in school history. We're looking to have a couple good practices this week and I'm pumped for the playoffs."

Freshman goalkeeper Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) made three saves for UMD. Sophomore goalie Pete Foley (Northbridge, MA/Blackstone Valley RVHS) stopped three shots and junior goalie Andrew Weaver (Westport, MA/Westport HS) stopped one in relief. UMB junior goalkeeper Anthony Fitti (Havertown, Pa/Haverford Senior HS) made six saves while senior goalie Pete Towe (Hockessin, DE/Alexis I. duPont HS) stopped 11 shots.

UMass Dartmouth improved to 13-3 and 5-2 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while UMass Boston dropped to 5-11 and 0-7 in LEC action with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host a Little East Conference playoff game next Thursday. The game marked the final action of the season for UMass Boston. UMASS DARTMOUTH LACROSSE
