NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-A member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's lacrosse team has received a prestigious post-season honor.
Senior midfielder Stephen Espinola (Groton, MA/Groton-Dunstable HS) has been invited to play in the 2011 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Senior East/West All-Star Game. The game will be played at Endicott College on Sunday afternoon, June 5th.
The game features an East team and a West team, with players from both teams drawn from NCAA Division I, II and II programs.
Espinola was named second team All-Little East Conference this season. It marked his second consecutive All-Conference honor, having been named first team All-Conference as a junior. Espinola ranked fourth among UMass Dartmouth players this year, with 22 goals and five assists for 27 points.
"I am excited for Stephen, to be invited to a post season all star team is great recognition for Stephen and UMass Dartmouth lacrosse," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Kevin Mahoney. "He was a great player for us during his four years at UMass Dartmouth and we are trying to add him to the coaching staff next year, when he completes his last year of study in the nursing program. This honor will give him one more chance to play as a college athlete."
The Corsairs had their finest season ever, finishing 13-4 overall and second in the Little East Conference.
