NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the second consecutive season, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's soccer team has been picked to finish second in the annual Little East Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs' placing in this year's and last year's polls marks their best showing in 10 years, since they shared the number two ranking in the 2002 poll.
UMass Dartmouth received two first place votes and 52 points, placing them eight points behind defending champion Eastern Connecticut State, which received four of the eight first-place votes and 60 points. Keene State received one first-place vote and 51 points. Plymouth State and Rhode Island College tied for fourth place with 32 points,Southern Maine was next with 24, UMass Boston received the other first place vote and had 23 points, and Western Connecticut was eighth with 13.
"As usual, the voting was tight again this year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Henry Almeida. "We are pleased to be viewed as a top tier team in such a competitive conference. I expect all of the matches to be closely contested, and the championship title to be up for grabs."
UMass Dartmouth finished 12-7-0 overall last year, advancing to the finals of the LEC Tournament. The Corsairs open their season Wednesday, September 4th against Salem State at Durfee High School.
