Ferreira, Machado Earn LEC Men's Soccer Honors
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team have been honored by the Little East Conference.
Senior forward Victor Ferreira (St. Miguel, Portugal/New Bedford HS) has been named LEC Offensive Player of the Week, while junior defender Alex Machado (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) was named LEC Defensive Player of the Week.
Ferreira scored three goals and added an assist in two games last week as the Corsairs went 2-0. He scored twice against Framingham State Saturday, including the game winning goal, after scoring once and assisting once against Daniel Webster Wednesday. Machado keyed a defensive effort that limited two opponents to a total of one goal last week and blanked Framingham State.
"We're very happy with Victor's quick start, he's put himself in good position to lead this team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Henry Almeida. "He put in a lot of work over the summer, and now he's in form averaging a goal a game and looking for a great season. We're happy for him."
"Alex is a model of consistency," Almeida continued. "He's a pillar of strength, uses his size and strength well, and our defense takes the lead from him. He continues to be an offensive threat as well, and it was good to see him also get recognized."
The Corsairs are now 3-1-0 and will return to action when they visit Salve Regina Tuesday.
