Ferriera Earns LEC Player of the Year

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal) has been named the 2013 Little East Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Year.

Also earning awards were senior Adam Philbin (Cumberland, R.I) and junior Josh Chao (New Bedford, Mass.), who were selected to the All-Little East First Team, while sophomore Aelaf Solomon (Framingham, Mass.) earned himself a spot on the All-Little East Second Team.

Ferreira became the first Corsair to capture the prestigious top offensive player award. The senior striker from St. Michael, Portugal is a four-time All-Little East first-team selection. Ferreira shared the top spot in the conference individual standings in assists (6), while ranking third in points (28), fourth in goals (11), and game-winning goals ( 3). A starter in all 19 matches, Ferreira scored at least one goal in nine matches, while recording a point in 11. He produced a season-high five points, on two markers and a helper, against Massachusetts Maritime. The 2012 All-Region selection also netted a pair of goals at Framingham State. Ferreira provided UMass Dartmouth with the eventual game-winning goal against Daniel Webster, the Rams, and Buccaneers. He was named the Little East Offensive Player of the Week three times during his swan song season.

For the second consecutive season Philbin is honored as a member of the All-Little East First Team. In 18 games, the senior midfielder netted two goals, including a game winner in a victory over UMass Boston, and two assists on the year.  Philbin served as a captain alongside Ferreira.

Chao made his All-Little East First Team debut. The junior defensive back ranked sixth in the Little East in shots per game (3), seventh in points (22), tied for sixth in goals (10), and tied for fourth in game-winning goals (3).  Chao scored the game-winning goal against this year's Little East Tournament Champions when he converted on a free-kick opportunity from about 25 yards out. In the Little East Tournament, Chao scored in the semi-final round against Keene State and notched the lone goal for the Corsairs in a 3-1 lose in the conference championship.

Solomon rounds off the All-Little East selections for UMass Dartmouth. Last year's Little East Rookie of the Year tied for tenth in the conference in assists (3) and was third for the Corsairs in goals scored (4).  The sophomore forward buried the game-winning goal against Plymouth State. At Keene State, Solomon contributed in a come from behind victory where he tied the match at 2-2 early in the second half.
