BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. -- With under a minute left in the second overtime period, senior JB Macaroco (New Bedford, Mass.) found the back of the net off a corner kick to lift the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Massachusetts Maritime this evening at Clean Harbors Stadium.
The win marks the Corsairs' second consecutive double-overtime win and increased their record in extra sessions to 2-1-1.
After 109 minutes of scoreless play, sophomore Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) sent in a pass from the flag, which found Macaraco for the game-winning strike. Vidal logged his team-leading sixth assist and Macaraco registered his third marker of the season.
In net, sophomore Andrew Deane (Woburn, Mass.) earned his first win between the posts, stopping all six shot attempts, while Buccaneer Joe Cohen recorded five saves in the effort.
UMass Dartmouth improves to 5-5-1, while Mass. Maritime slips to 5-5 overall.
The Corsairs return to Cressy Field on Saturday, Oct. 11 for a conference showdown with Keene State at 3 p.m.
