Men's Soccer Flies Past Daniel Webster, 3-0

DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Senior Matt Vidal (New Bedford, Mass.) tallied his ninth and 10th goals of the season, respectively, to fuel UMass Dartmouth Men's Soccer to its second-straight win on Wednesday, outdoing Daniel Webster by a 3-0 score.

The Basics

Score: UMass Dartmouth 3, Daniel Webster 0
UMass Dartmouth 6-3-0 | Daniel Webster 4-4-2

How it Happened

Both teams were able to produce their share of offense on the contest, with the Corsairs bettering the Eagles by just one shot, 13-12, but putting four more on goal for the night. Vidal had a dangerous touch early, tapping in the first goal just seven minutes in when sophomore John Correia (Peabody, Mass.) fed the senior on a breakaway, with Vidal finishing on a one-timer.

Vidal struck again to begin the second half scoring, this time making a move to beat Eagle goalkeeper Ryan Flaherty (Manorville, N.Y.) off a cross-pass from sophomore Jake Moreira (Burlington, Mass.).  The senior captain converted on both of his shots on goal on the evening.

UMass Dartmouth would effectively put the game out of reach right at the 82nd-minute marker, when Moreira found junior Fabio Araujo (Brockton, Mass.) for yet another quick tap-in.

Inside the Numbers

  • With his two-goal night, Vidal reached a new career-high single-season mark in goals as he now owns a Little East Conference-best 10 on the season thus far. Vidal also leads the league with 24 points.
  • Araujo now sits second behind Vidal on the Corsair roster with four goals on 2016.
  • With two assists, Moreira registers the first multi-point game on his career.
  • Flaherty made four stops in his first goalkeeping decision on the season for Daniel Webster. For the Corsairs, freshman Danny Andrade (New Bedford, Mass.) also earned his first decision, saving three shots.
