How It Happened
Action began slowly in the matchup with the first shot of the contest not coming until eight minutes in. From there, the Corsairs controlled the shots accounting for five of the next seven.
But it was Rhode Island College that broke the stalemate in the 28th minute following a free kick. On the play, Dennis Vasquez (Providence, R.I.) entered the ball from just outside the box before Komla Dogbey (Providence, R.I.) put his head on the ball, finding the net for the first half advantage.
In the second half, the Anchormen defense upped the pressure, and disallowed many opportunities from UMass Dartmouth. In the 83rd minute, Fabio Araujo (Fogo, Cape Verde) got a clean look on the target, but pushed his shot wide of the net. It proved the final chance for the Corsairs as the clock drained on the 1-0 final score.
