How It Happened
The game-winning goal came in the 23rd minute of play when Luke Telang (Providence, R.I.) worked the give-and-go in the box with freshman Pryor Miller (Houston, Texas) before tucking his shot into the lower right corner of the net, picking up his fourth marker of the season.
Coast Guard's keeper Jake Sorenson (Oakdale, Conn.) was challenged just once in the contest when sophomore Elvis Mendes (Brockton, Mass.) got a good look on the net in the 11th minute.
The defense of the Bears clamped down on the Corsair offense throughout the remainder of the game. In the final 10 minutes, UMass Dartmouth upped its intensity, but the Bears withstood quality opportunities in the defensive zone to close the door on the 1-0 victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Coast Guard owned a 17 to 9 advantage in the shots column.
- The Corsairs trailed in corner opportunities 6 to 7, with five of those coming within the first 45 minutes.
- Freshman goalkeeper Mike Tranghese (Monson, Mass.) earned two saves in each half, logging a complete game in net. Sorenson improved his season record to 6-3-2 for Coast Guard.
UMass Dartmouth looks to keep its Little East Conference playoff hopes alive on Saturday, when it travels to Keene State for a 2:00 P.M. conference bout in the regular season finale.
