DANBURY, Conn. – The Western Connecticut men’s soccer pairing of senior Chauncey Allers (Wilton, Conn.) and sophomore Matthew Restrepo (Bridgeport, Conn.) led the way for the hosts with five and three points, respectively, to propel the Colonials over UMass Dartmouth by a score of 4-1 at The WAC on Saturday afternoon.
Allers continued his goal-scoring ways for the hosts in the 22nd minute, taking the feed from sophomore Afa Reyes (Bridgeport, Conn.) for the forward’s team-leading 17th score of the campaign.
Shortly after the intermission, UMass Dartmouth had been awarded a free kick from approximately 35 yards away from the goal. Junior Roberto Dos Santos (Fall River, Mass.) submitted a perfect service that found the noggin of senior Jake Moreira (Burlington, Mass.) at the penalty area for an equalizing header that settled into the back right corner of the nylon for his second marker of the season. The Colonials would retake the lead a few moments later, this time with Allers being on the helping end as he queued up the score for Restrepo. Less than 120 seconds after the go-ahead goal, Restrepo would pick up his third point by finding classmate Vinicius Santana (Sao Paolo, Brazil).
Allers would not complete his afternoon just yet, adding another goal to his line off the look from forward Mike Sciortino (Shelton, Conn.) to ultimately cement the outcome by pushing the differential to three.
Corsair freshman keeper Chris Moussavi (Bellmore, N.Y.) made nine stops on the day for the visitors, while sophomore Daniel Szabo (Trumbull, Conn.) earned the win in net for the hosts.
Western Connecticut takes to the road to take on Purchase College at 7 p.m. UMass Dartmouth returns home for its penultimate regular season contest against NEWMAC member Coast Guard 24 hours later.
