PROVIDENCE, RI-Nick Clark made nine saves to lead host Rhode Island College to a 2-0 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's soccer team in their Little East Conference match at the RIC Varsity Athletic Complex Saturday.
The Anchormen took the lead just before time expired in the first half. Hector Espildora out RIC ahead, 1-0, with a penalty kick with one second left on the first half clock after a foul in the box.
Espildora assisted on Mike Patriarca's goal in the 55th minute that made it 2-0.
"We didn't take advantage of our opportunities," said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Alex Bettencourt. "We missed several chances. We have to step up and finish."
UMass Dartmouth out shot RIC, 19-12. Junior goalkeeper Mike Phelan (Carver, MA/Carver HS) made four saves for the Corsairs.
UMass Dartmouth dropped to 5-3-1 and 1-1-1 in the Little East with the defeat, while Rhode Island College improved to 6-4 and 2-1 with the victory. The Corsairs will return to action when they visit Roger Williams Tuesday evening.
