BOSTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's soccer team and host Emmanuel played a 2-2, double overtime tie in a non-conference match at Roberto Clemente Field Tuesday evening.
Senior forward Kyle Estrella (Dartmouth, MA/Dartmouth HS/RIC) put the Corsairs ahead 4:44 into the match when he converted a pass from sophomore midfielder Anthony dos Santos (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS). The Saints tied it on a 35-yard shot 10:44 into the match.
UMass Dartmouth was credited with an own goal with 33:16 remaining when freshman forward Victor Ferreira (St. Michael, Portugal/New Bedford HS) took a shot and it deflected in off a Saints defender. Emmanuel equalized with 27:10 remaining on a header off a corner kick.
"I thought we dominated the play for 105 minutes, we just couldn't finish," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Henry Almeida. "Kyle scored our first goal after a nice ball from Anthony dos Santos, and Victor beat a defender down the right side and beat the goalie on the short side to put us ahead. But we had two breakaways that were stopped, and a defender cleared the ball off the line three times. When you don't take advantage of your opportunities, you can end up with the result that we ended up with tonight."
The Corsairs are now 6-2-1, while the Saints are now 4-6-2. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Keene State Saturday.
