BRISTOL, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's swimming team finished second at the two-day Snowball Invitational, which concluded Saturday at the Roger Williams Aquatic Center. The Corsairs finished with 503 points.
Highlights included freshman Bryan Baranick (Assonet, MA/Apponequet HS), who won the 200 yard backstroke in 2:05.17, freshman Justin Floeck (Middleboro, MA/Middleboro HS), who was third in the 100 yard freestyle in 51.46 seconds, sophomore Phil Lowney (Mattapoisett, MA/Bishop Stang HS/Roger Williams), who was third in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:23.22, freshman Robert Braza (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS), who was fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.48, senior Kevin Janofsky (Brookfield, CT/Brookfield HS), fifth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:35.10, and junior Julian Jiminian (Springfield, MA/Renaissance HS), sixth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:39.18. Sophomore Michael Gryss (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) was sixth in the 200 butterfly in 2:23.01, junior Conor Szarek (Leominster, MA/Leominster HS) was second in one meter diving with 353.20 points, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Gryss, Baranick, Janofsky and Floeck was second in 3:34.22.
In the 400 yard individual medley, Braza was second in 4:50.01 and Janofsky third in 4:51.27. Baranick was third in the 100 yard butterfly in 57.62 seconds, Gryss fifth in 1:00.13. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Lowney was third in 1:07.25, Gryss fourth in 1:07.55, and Floeck sixth in 1:10.67. The 200 medley relay team of Baranick, Lowney, Gryss and Floeck was third in 1:49.24, while the 800 freestyle relay team of Janofsky, Braza, Floeck and Baranick was third in 8:00.96.
"I could not be more proud of our men's team this weekend," said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Owen Worden. "We had a handful of excellent races, and we did a wonderful job of finishing strong and securing a second place finish in our first visit to the Snowball Invitational."
The Corsairs will visit Elms next Saturday.
