Men's Swimming and Diving Capture First Win of Season
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team captured their first win of the season against the University of New England at the Natatorium on Saturday afternoon.
UMass Dartmouth defeated New England 116-108 after placing first in 14 out 16 events.
For the Corsairs, Robert Muir (Sagamore Beach, Mass.), Phil Lowney (Mattapoisett, Mass.), Michael Gryss (New Bedford, Mass.) and Grayham Ronan (Mills, Mass.) combined to win the 200 yard medley relay in 1:45.39.
Freshman Brian McCauley (Franklin, Mass.) captured first in the men's 1000 yard (11:46.99) and 500 yard (5:37.43) freestyle events. McCauley teamed with Muir, Lowney and Bryan Baranick (Assonet, Mass.) to capture the 400 yards freestyle relay. In other freestyle events, junior Edward Olean (Seekonk, Mass.) won the 200 free and his classmate Tim Doucette (Middleboro, Mass.) seized the 50 free.
Muir placed in first for the 100 yard backstroke (57.78), as well as the 200 yard (2:08.16).
Baranick and Gryss took first and second in the 100 and 200 butterfly events.
The Nor'easters had no competition for Corsair senior Christian Francia (Hampton, N.H.) who scored a 248.60 in the one meter and 209.15 in the three meter.
The next meet for UMass Dartmouth is at 6 p.m. on November 5 against Bridgewater State.
