TROY, N.Y. – Senior Christian Francia (Hampton, N.H.) finished the 2014 NCAA Division III Northeast Regional one meter Diving Championships in 17th place at the Natatorium on the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
In 11 dive attempts, Francia generated a total score of 384.75 points off the one-meter board. Johan Schmidt from Tufts University captured first place with a score of 576.20 points to defeat the field of 20 divers by a margin of nearly 40 points. The next closest competitor was Mark Idleman of Amherst College (537.55), followed by Oneonta's Jermaine Miller (529.45).
Two weeks ago, Francia helped guide the UMass Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team to a fourth place finish in the 2014 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Championships. The senior placed first in the three-meter diving competition and was named Diver of the Meet after earning All-NEISDA recognition on both the one and three-meter boards, respectively.
UMass Dartmouth returns to the pool tomorrow when they compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Open Championships in Annapolis, Md. For those who will not be making the trip, live statistics will be provided.
