200 Relay Sets UNE Pool Record in Corsair Win

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth 200-yard freestyle relay team established a new Campus Center Pool record this afternoon to highlight the Corsairs' exhibition win over the University of New England. The Nor'easters men's program competes under its club banner.

The UMass Dartmouth quartet of junior Kevin Curley (Raynham, Mass.), junior Brian Baranick (Assonet, Mass.), senior TJ Doucette, Jr. (Middleboro, Mass.), and freshman Devin Farnsworth (Leominster, Mass.) combined to establish a new facility standard, when the Corsairs touched the wall at one minute, 35.05 seconds.  Roger Williams had previously held the record since 2011.

The Corsairs captured 10 of the 12 individual races to earn a 160-73 victory. Farnsworth was a triple winner, capturing the 50-yard buterfly (24.96), 100-yard freestyle (53.85), and 200-yard freestyle (1:59.49).

Baranick and sophomore Grayham Ronan (Millis, Mass.) each captured a pair of events.  Baranick was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.34) and the 1000-yard freestyle (11:17.23), while Ronan defeated the field in the 50-yard backstroke (28.78) and 500-yard freestyle (5:28.22).

Freshamn Dillian Whyte (Wrentham, Mass.) led the field into the wall in the 50-yard breaststroke, tripping the timer at 36.53 seconds.  Doucette, Jr. and classmate Phil Lowney (Mattapoisett, Mass.) each posted a win to complete the Corsair scoring.

UMass Dartmouth will return to action at 6 p.m. on Nov. 4, when the Corsairs host Bridgewater State University.
