NEW LONDON, N.H. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team captured 7-of-12 individual events and earned a nine points in the 200 yard medley relay in a defeat Colby-Sawyer, 146-104, to close out the 2014-15 regular season.
Sophomore Grayham Ronan (Millis, Mass.) led the Corsairs with three individual wins and served as a member of the first place 200 yard medley relay team. Ronan tripped the timer with a first place time of 2 minutes and 2.53 seconds in the 200 yard freestyle. The Millis, Mass. product accumulated nine points in both the 100 yard butterfly and in the 100 yard freestyle. Ronan edged out Colby-Sawyer's Brett Cayer by 1.10 seconds to take the top spot in the 100 free. The 200 yard medley relay comprised of Ronan, Phil Lowney (Mattapoisett, Mass.), TJ Doucette, Jr. (Middleboro, Mass.) and Kevin Curley (Raynham, Mass.) touched the wall less than a second ahead of the Charger's relay team to earn 11 points for UMass Dartmouth.
Lowney and Doucette each generated 18 points with a pair of wins. In the 100 yard breaststroke, the Corsairs swept the top three spots; Lowney, Michael Gryss, Jr. (New Bedford, Mass.) and Robert Braza (Attleboro, Mass.). UMass Dartmouth took the top two spots in the 200 yard IM, with Lowney taking first place and junior Bryan Baranick (Assonet, Mass.) earning a second place finish. Doucette defeated the field in the 50 yard freestyle and narrowly edged out Gryss for the top seed in the 50 yard butterfly.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Friday, Feb. 13, when the Corsairs compete in the New England Div. II-III Championships at the University of Rhode Island.
