Men's Swimming Evens Season Mark With 168-74 Win At Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. --  Both UMass Dartmouth swimming teams recorded a pair of victories over Elms in dual-meet competition on Saturday afternoon at Partyka Natatorium, as the Corsair men claimed a 168-74 triumph while the Corsair women posted a 158-98 win over the host Blazers.

Juniors Sarah Murphy (Braintree, Mass.) and Molly Harrington (Tewksbury, Mass.) set the pace on the women’s side by winning three events each on the day for UMass Dartmouth (1-3).  Murphy took top honors in the 800 meter freestyle (10:21.79), 100 meter breaststroke (1:24.69) and 100 meter individual medley (1:14.69), while Harrington triumphed in the 50 meter backstroke (34.74), 50 meter freestyle (29.77) and 100 meter freestyle (1:07.44) for the visitors.

Junior Abigail Wilson (Newburyport, Mass.) posted a pair of wins in the 50 meter breaststroke (43.14) and 50 meter butterfly (33.44) for the Corsairs, who also received triumphs from junior Tara Clark (Southgate, Mich.) in the 400 meter freestyle (5:18.32) and freshman Maddie Kovach (Oxford, Conn.) in the 200 meter freestyle (2:27.29).  UMass Dartmouth was also victorious in both relay events on the afternoon, as the quartet of Murphy, Clark, junior Alissa Hall (Westboro, Mass.) and sophomore Brianna Johnson (Plymouth, Mass.) captured the 200 medley relay (2:24.82) while the tandem of Wilson, Harrington, Clark and junior Kayla Lovy (Londonderry, N.H.) took top honors in the 200 freestyle relay (2:03.01).

Junior David Adamski (Wilbraham, Mass.) and sophomore Justin Chung (Roslindale, Mass.) each notched a pair of wins on the men’s side for UMass Dartmouth (2-2), as Adamski claimed the 200 (2:05.99) and 400 meter (4:29.07) freestyle events while Chung captured top honors in the 50 meter breaststroke (32.81) and 100 meter backstroke (1:09.06).  Senior Anthony Toscano (Massapequa, N.Y.) won the 50 meter freestyle (26.95) for the Corsairs, who received respective triumphs from juniors Stephen Barrett (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Kyle MacKenzie (Londonderry, N.H.) in the 800 meter freestyle (9:49.17) and 100 meter individual medley (1:10.81). 

Sophomore Cameron DiBenedetto (East Freetown, Mass.) and freshman Eric Worden (Portland, Maine) notched victories in the 50 meter backstroke (32.94) and 100 meter freestyle (58.89) for the visitors, who also swept the days’ relay action.  DiBenedetto, Chung, MacKenzie and Adamski won the 200 medley relay (1:59.84) for UMass Dartmouth, which received a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:47.22) from the quartet of Toscano, Worden, Adamski and freshman Rivaldo Ozerus (Brockton, Mass.).

Both Corsair squads return to action on Saturday, December 1st when UMass Dartmouth welcomes Westfield State to the Tripp Natatorium for dual-meet action beginning at 1:00 pm.
