EAST MEADOW, NY-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's swimming team turned in a good performance in their final action of the fall semester at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Swimming Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.
The Corsairs finished eighth among men's teams and 11th overall in the 16-team meet.
Junior Matt Fahey (New Bedford, MA/Middleborough HS) was sixth in the one-meter diving competition, while senior Andrew Dibenedetto (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS) was seventh. Sophomore Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) was 11th in the 50 yard freestyle in 22.15 seconds, his best time of the season.
The 400 yard freestyle relay team of sophomore Dave Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS), Almeida, sophomore Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS), freshman Chris Currier-Haynes (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) and Johnson was ninth in 3:29.86, while the 400 medley relay team of freshman Miguel Almeida (New Bedford, MA/Laranjeiras HS-Azores/Bristol CC), sophomore Steve Szarek (Middletown, CT/Middletown HS), sophomore Joe Krzystofik (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee HS) and Currier-Haynes was 11th in 4:04.24.
"We swam really well, considering it's the middle of the season and we didn't do any special preparation for this meet," said UMass Dartmouth Assistant Coach Dave Schneeweis. "We had several personal bests. We stepped it up and looked good."
The meet concluded fall semester action for the Corsairs, who will return to action when they visit Elms on Saturday, January 17th.
