NEW LONDON, NH-The final dual meet of the regular season was an artistic success for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's swimming team.
The Corsairs swept host Colby-Sawyer in a dual meet at the Knight Natatorium Saturday afternoon, with the women winning, 109-100, and the men victorious, 120-118.
UMass Dartmouth's women won five events. Junior Kathleen Foley (Haverhill, MA/Haverhill HS) won the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:39.923, and was a member of the victorious 200 medley relay team, which finished first in 2:05.02 and also included junior Kaitlyn Kewriga (Stoughton, MA/Stoughton HS), senior Lisa Sands (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS/UMass) and freshman Brittany Dupuis (Milford, MA/Milford HS). Sands won the 200 butterfly in 2:28.97, Dupuis took the 100 freestyle in 1:00.87, and freshman Kim Moore (Billerica, MA/Billerica HS) won the 1000 freestyle in 11:53.17.
Winners for the men included sophomore Joe Krzystofik (Chicopee, MA/Chicopee HS), who took the 1000 freestyle in 11:02.43, sophomore David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS), who took the 50 freestyle in 24.02 seconds, senior Andrew Dibenedetto (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS), who won the one meter diving with 208.30 points, and junior Matt Fahey (New Bedford, MA/Middleboro HS), who took the three-meter diving with 210.35 points.
"It was nice to wrap up the season with wins on both sides," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "Our men scored one, two, and three in both diving events to bring the men's meet down to the final relay. Hopefully, we can get all of our student-athletes healthy, to begin to taper for the New England Championships in the next couple of weeks."
The Corsair men are now 5-5, while the women are now 39, while the Charger men and women are both now 4-6. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host the women's New England Division II and Division III Championships in two weeks.
