Men's Swimmers Advance at NEISDA Championships

BRISTOL, RI-Quite a few members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's swimming team advanced on the first day of action at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Men's Division II and III Championships at the Roger Williams University Recreation Center.
In Friday's preliminaries, the men's 200 yard freestyle relay team of sophomore David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/Tyngsboro HS), freshman Chris Currier-Haymes (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS), freshman Tom Silva (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS) and sophomore Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) finished fifth in 1:31.31.
Johnson was fourth in the 100 butterfly in 54.35 and Adams was eighth in 56.30, sophomore Steve Szarek (Middletown, CT/Middletown HS) was fourth in the 50 yard breaststroke in 28.56 seconds, Silva was 12th in the 200 yard backstroke in 2:09.61, Johnson was fifth in the 50 freestyle in 22.63 seconds, sophomore David Lyons (Haverhill, MA/Central Catholic HS) eighth in the 200 yard individual medley in 2:10.40, the 400 yard medley relay team of Silva, Szarek, Johnson and Adams was fifth in 3:49.11.
In one-meter diving, senior Andrew Dibenedetto (North Andover, MA/North Andover HS) was second with 379.20 points, junior Matt Fahey (New Bedford, MA/Middleboro HS) fourth with 364.45 points, and sophomore Bryan Riddick (Waterbury, CT/Sacred Heart HS) eighth with 324.90 points.
The meet will continue Saturday and conclude Sunday.
