Men's Swimmers Finish Eighth at ECAC Division II ChampionshipsEAST MEADOW, NY-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's swimming team turned in a good performance and finished eighth in an 11-team field as the three-day Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Swimming Championships concluded Sunday at the Nassau County Aquatics Center. The Corsairs finished with 318.5 points.
The 400 yard medley relay team of freshman Chris Dodge (Holden, MA/Wachusett Regional HS), junior Steve Szarek (Middletown, CT/Middletown HS), junior Craig Johnson (Acushnet, MA/New Bedford HS) and freshman Jake Pesante (Wakefield, RI/South Kingston HS) finished eighth in 3:55.87. The 400 freestyle relay team of junior David Adams (Tyngsboro, MA/ Tyngsboro HS), junior Andrew Haughey (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS), Johnson and Pesante was ninth in 3:29.84, and Johnson was 23rd in the 50 yard freestyle relay in 22.83 seconds.
Johnson and junior diver Matt Fahey (New Bedford, MA/Middleborough HS) qualified for the ECAC Open Championships in February.
"We did great," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Cathy Motta. "It was great preparation for our upcoming meets and for the New England Championships in February."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Elms next Saturday.
