NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches and went on to a 7-2 victory over visiting UMass Boston in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Saturday.
Junior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS), junior Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS), senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech) and sophomore Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) each won twice for the Corsairs.
Rathlev defeated freshman David Hernandez (Bogota, Colombia/Liceo Segovia) at number one singles, 6-1, 6-2, and teamed with junior Guillaume Cotte (Grenoble, France) to down Hernandez and sophomore Charles Lai (Boston, MA/Boston College HS) at number one doubles, 8-3. Parker defeated senior Himanshu Dubey (Lucknow, India/Medford HS-MA) at number six singles, 6-3, 6-2, and combined with senior Brian Lui (Medfield, MA/Medfield HS) to take out Dubey and sophomore Lyle Analetto (Belmont, MA/Belmont HS) at number three doubles, 8-3. Dugas downed sophomore Seth Shavers (Boston, MA/Academy of the Pacific Rim) at number four singles, 6-0, 6-1; Bejtlich took care of Analetto at number five singles 6-2, 6-0, and Dugas and Bejtlich teamed to defeat Shavers and junior Alex Loyer (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) at number two doubles, 9-7.
"We played very well, and we had four double winners," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "Karsten remained undefeated, and Mike continued to win silently. We're playing well as a team, and we're going to be getting into the heart of our league matches very soon.
The Corsairs improved to 5-1 and 2-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Beacons dropped to 4-3 and 0-1 in the LEC with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Curry Monday. UMass Boston will visit Lesley Monday.
