PROVIDENCE, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team didn't lose a set in blanking host Rhode Island College, 9-0, in their Little East Conference match at the Rhode Island College Outdoor Courts Tuesday.
Junior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) remained undefeated for the Corsairs, defeating Alex Werchadlo at number one singles, 6-3, 6-2, and teaming with senior Brian Lui (Medfield, MA/Medfield HS) to down Werchadlo and Anthony DeFrancesco at number one doubles, 8-6. Lui defeated Jason Morin at number three singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech) defeated DeFrancesco at number two singles, 6-2, 6-2, and combined with sophomore Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) to defeat Morin and Ted James at number two doubles, 8-0. Junior Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) defeated James at number five singles, 6-0, 6-0. The Corsairs won by default at number six singles and number three doubles.
"It was good to see Karsten remain undefeated in singles and in doubles, and we got pretty steady play from everyone in our lineup," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "I was glad to see us remain undefeated in the conference."
The Corsairs improved to 7-2 and 3-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while the Anchormen dropped to 1-11 and 0-3 in the LEC with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Johnson & Wales Thursday.
