DANBURY, CT -The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team swept all three doubles and defeated host Western Connecticut State, 7-2, in the final Little East Conference match of the regular season for both teams at the Westside Tennis Courts Saturday.
Juniors Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) and Guillaume Cotte (Grenoble, France) defeated Troy Pandolfi and Austin Werner at number one doubles, 9-7. Senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech) and sophomore Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) downed Brian Bucknam and Ryan Klem at number two doubles, 8-2, and junior Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) and senior Brian Lui (Medfield, MA/Medfield HS) defeated Kyle Wilson and Enea Dervishi at number three doubles, 8-5.
Cotte, Dugas, Parker and Bejtlich all won their singles match. Rathlev lost a Little East Conference match for the first time this season, falling to Pandolfi at number one singles, 4-6, 6-2, (10-8),
"I was very pleased with the way we played," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "We had a couple of close matches, and it was disappointing that Karsten lost at number one singles, but, overall, we played well. It will be good to go home and get a bye to start the conference tournament."
The Corsairs improved to 11-2 and 6-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, The Colonials dropped to 6-4 and 3-3 in LEC action with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host a semi-final match in the Little East Conference Tournament on Thursday.
