NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team won their first non-traditional match of the fall.
The Corsairs defeated Eastern Nazarene last Friday, 8-1, at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex.
Junior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) and senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech) each won twice. They defeated Sam McKay-Corkum and Tyler Perron at number two doubles, 9-7. Bejtlich downed Tim Luz at number three singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Dugas defeated Perron at number four, 6-3, 6-2.
Seniors Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) and Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) also won twice. Rathlev teamed with sophomore Patrick Lewis (Dorchester, MA/Dorchester HS) to down Austin Steelman and Sam Sori at number one doubles, 8-2, and Rathlev then downed Steelman at number one singles, 6-3, 6-2. Parker defeated Kevin Paterno at number five singles, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, while teaming with junior Zach Engstrom (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) for an 8-2 win over Luz and Nick Thompson at number three doubles.
Lawton defeated Thompson at number six singles, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, while Lewis suffered the only UMD loss, retiring after defeating McKay-Corkum in the first set, 6-4. Freshmen Dan Chouinard (Westport, MA/Westport HS) and Jonathan Reagan (Franklin, MA/Franklin HS) downed Greg Parenteau and Weston Jordan in an extra doubles match, 8-1.
UMD will participate in a tournament at Stonehill October 6th and 7th to wrap up fall competition.
