Men's Tennis Takes Down Holy Cross, 7-2

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team won all three doubles matches and went on to defeat visiting Holy Cross, 7-2, in a non-conference match Monday at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex.

At number one doubles, senior Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) and sophomore Patrick Lewis (Dorchester, MA/Dorchester HS) defeated junior Ryan Sullivan (Medfield, MA/Roxbury Latin HS) and junior Chris Brosnan (Garden City, NY/Chaminade HS), 9-8 (7-0). Senior Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS/New York City Tech HS) and junior Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) downed senior Scot Brownell (Plymouth, MA/Boston College HS) and sophomore Rob Buetti (Bay Shore, NY/Chaminade HS), 8-2. At number three, sophomore Ray Lawton (Fairhaven, MA/Fairhaven HS) and freshman Dan Chouinard (Westport, MA/Westport HS) defeated senior Jeff Paadre (Sutton, MA/Sutton Memorial HS) and senior Tom Casavant (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan HS), 8-2.

At number one singles, Rathlev lost to Sullivan, 3-4, retired, while at number two singles, Brosnan defeated Dugas, 7-5,. 7-5. At number three, Bejtlich defeated Brownell, 4-6, 7-6 (7-5), (8-6), while Lewis defeated Buetti at number four, 6-1, 6-11. Lawton downed Paadre at number five, 6-4, 6-2, while Chouinard downed Casavant at number six, 6-1, 6-3.

"I'm pleased with the win, we had some great matches," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "I was pleased that our freshman, Dan Chouinard, and our sophomore, Ray Lawton, each won in singles, and then won together in doubles. Matt Bejtlich played a super match in singles, and also played well in doubles with Brennan Dugas. This will help set us up for our upcoming league matches."

The Corsairs improved to 3-3 with the victory, while the Crusaders fell to 1-11 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference match Tuesday. Holy Cross will participate in the Patriot League playoffs at Colgate this Friday.
