MILTON, Mass. – The Corsairs cruised to a 8-1 win on Wednesday evening, as UMass Dartmouth men's tennis picked up its fourth win in five matches at Curry College. Every Corsair to play earned at least one decision on the day, as UMass Dartmouth swept the doubles and took five singles matches.
Senior Daniel Chouinard (Westport, Mass.) rose to 7-3 on the year at the No. 1 singles flight, ousting Curry's Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) in three sets, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2. Chouinard also played his fifth-straight doubles match with classmate Andrew Burdick (Dartmouth, Mass.), as the duo claimed an 8-5 victory over Blatchford and Richie Hefler (Canton, Conn.) at the top flight.
UMass Dartmouth swept the other two doubles matchups. Senior Summer Forest-Bulley (Turners Falls, Mass.) and freshman Anthony Joseph (Fairhaven, Mass.) have yet to drop a doubles match as partners, as they turned in an 8-0 sweep of Mike Mathieu (Paxton, Mass.) and Dan Ritucci (Middleboro, Mass.) at No. 2.
Sophomore Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and freshman Ian Patriarca (Springfield, Mass.) dispatched Sergie Evans (New York, N.Y.) and Nizar Akkawi (East Falmouth, Mass.) at the third flight without dropping a game.
At No. 3 singles, Pavao downed Ritucci, gathering a 7-6 (10-4), 6-4 victory. Patriarca played his first match of the year at No. 4 and swept Evans, 6-0,6-0. Forest-Bulley wrapped up the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win of his own over Akkawi at the sixth slot.
Senior Tony Xie (Beijing, China) debuted at No. 3 singles, picking up a commanding win over Mathieu in 6-1, 6-0 fashion.
UMass Dartmouth remains on the road before closing with three straight home matches, meeting Western Connecticut at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
