Men's Tennis Knock Off Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth resumed a match from earlier in the week, and with a singles victory from Patrick Pacheco (Fall River, Mass.), knocked off Rhode Island College in a closely-contested 5-4 victory.

The Basics

Score: UMass Dartmouth 5, Rhode Island College 4

Records: Corsairs (6-7, 2-1 LEC) | Anchorman (9-3, 3-2 LEC)

How it Happened

The Corsairs opened the match with a victory in doubles as Pacheco and Eli Brooks (Franklin, Mass.) staved off the opponents for an 8-6 decision. Rhode Island College strung together consecutive wins to finish off the portion of the match with the 2-1-point lead.

In singles, the Corsairs had their best-showing as Tristin Viale (Westfield, Mass.), Anthony Joseph (Acushnet, Mass.) and Brooks all outlasted their opponents to give the Corsairs a 4-2 lead. With more loss possibly determining the match, Rhode Island College knotted the score at four when Ethan Hoy (West Warwick, R.I.) and Alan Esposito (Clinton, Conn.) topped Zach Pavao (Somerset, Mass.) and Mark Desmond (Braintree, Mass.) respectively.

That is when the match was suspended due to darkness in the midst of the final match to determine the victor. Two days later, Pacheco returned to the court when he downed Cam Chadwick (Narragansett, R.I.) increasing the drama as the senior needed an extra-set to take down the Anchormen.
