Host Western Connecticut State won four of the six singles matches and came from behind to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team, 5-4, in a Little East Conference match at the WestConn Courts Sunday afternoon.
The Corsairs won two of the three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead. Freshmen Trevor and Nolan Blier (Westport, MA/Westport HS) defeated Joe Pacelli and Thomas Fingerman at number two doubles, 8-4; while senior Josh McCoy (Newburyport, MA/Newburyport HS) and freshman Andrew Zappala (Merrimack, MA/Pentucket Regional HS) downed Patrick Matysek and Jarret Coleman at number three doubles, 8-2.
McCoy defeated Pacelli at number four singles, 6-2, 6-0 and junior Alex Samoiloff (Princeton, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) downed Fingerman at number six, 6-0, 6-1. But the Colonials took the other four singles matches and won, 5-4.
The Corsairs dropped to 2-6 and 1-4 in the Little East Conference with the defeat, while the Colonials improved to 6-3 and 4-2 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host LEC opponent Bridgewater State Tuesday afternoon.
