LEICESTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team didn't lose a set in blanking host Becker, 9-0, in a non-conference match at the Becker Tennis Courts Monday.
Four Corsairs won twice. Sophomore Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) defeated Tim Howard at number two singles, 6-1, 6-0, after teaming with freshman Matt Bejtlich (Rochester, MA/Moses Brown HS) to defeat Jake Gilbert and Brian Piquette at number one doubles, 8-3. Bejtlich defeated Branden Parkhouse at number three singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Junior Brian Lui (Medfield, MA/Medfield HS) teamed with senior Taha Souayah (Ariana, Tunisia) to defeat Matt Graham and Josh Rasmussen at number three doubles, 8-1. Lui defeated Piquette at number four singles, 6-3, 6-2, while Souayah defeated Jason Alera at number six singles, 6-1, 6-0.
"It was a good team effort," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "We had four double winners, and all of our first-year players won their matches, which pleases me."
The Corsairs improved to 3-0 with the victory, while the Hawks dropped to 1-5 with the defeat. UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they visit UMass Boston Wednesday afternoon. Becker will host Lesley Wednesday.
