NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team didn't lose a set en route to a 9-0 victory over visiting Becker in a non-conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday.
Four Corsairs were double winners. Senior Ken Sims (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) defeated junior Charles Heard (Stratford, CT/Stratford HS) at number one singles, freshman Mike Giaquinto (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth HS) defeated sophomore Jake Gilbert (Huntington Beach, CA/Harvest Christian HS) at number three singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Sims and Giaquinto combined to down Heard and junior Chris Parker (Biddeford, ME/Biddeford HS) at number one doubles, 8-2. Freshman Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) defeated Parker at number two singles, 6-0, 6-2, sophomore Brian Lui (Medfield, MA/Medfield HS) defeated sophomore Tim Howard (Paxton, MA/Wachusett Regional HS) at number four singles, 6-1, 7-5, and Giaquinto and Lui teamed to defeat freshman Branden Parkhouse (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos HS) at number two doubles, 8-0.
"Mike Parker played well and is still undefeated, our captain, Ken Sims, is a double winner, and our freshmen played very well," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "We have a tough league match tomorrow at home against Bridgewater."
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Bridgewater State Tuesday. Becker will travel to Albertus Magnus Thursday.
