NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Visiting Bridgewater State swept the doubles matches and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team, 8-1, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Tuesday.
Freshman Mike Parker (Scituate, MA/Scituate HS) was the Corsairs only winner on the day. He defeated senior Armindo Rocha (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) at number two singles, 7-5, 5-7, (10-6), winning a super-tiebreaker played in place of a third set.
For the Bears, junior Nicholas Armrose (Arlington, MA/Arlington HS), sophomore Adam Laithy (North Smithfield, RI/North Smithfield HS), junior Justin Lipomi (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS), freshman Matt Mailhot (Oxford, MA/Tantasqua HS) and sophomore Mike Zagame (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) were all double winners.
"I was pleased that freshman Mike Parker was able to remain undefeated at number two singles," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "We had a couple of close matches where we had an opportunity to win. Their experience won out over our inexperience."
Bridgewater State improved to 4-3 and 1-0 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while UMass Dartmouth fell to 4-2 and 0-2 in LEC play with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Salem State Saturday. BSC will travel to Suffolk Thursday.
