NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team won all six singles matches and defeated visiting Western Connecticut State, 8-1, in a Little East Conference match at the UMass Dartmouth Athletic Complex Sunday.
The Corsairs had four double winners. Sophomore Mason Viau (Marion, MA/Bishop Hendricken HS/Connecticut), who teamed with senior Christoph Forster (Reading, MA/Reading HS) to defeat Matthew Boisvert and Greg Martin at number two doubles, 8-0, downed Matt Fogle at number one singles, 6-3, 7-5. Forster defeated Kyle Fiengo at number four singles, 6-2, 7-5. Freshman Troy Pandolfi (Danbury, CT) defeated Martin at number two singles, 6-0, 6-0; freshman Karsten Rathlev (Winchester, MA/Winchester HS) downed Andrew Kelley at number three singles, 6-0, 6-1; Pandolfi and Rathlev combined to defeat Fogle and Michael Knortz at number one doubles, 8-3.
"I was pleased with the win, and I was pleased with our effort," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "Mason and Troy are still undefeated in Little East competition. Hopefully, we can continue winning and keep it going right into the conference tournament."
UMass Dartmouth improved to 7-1 and 3-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while Western Connecticut dropped to 5-5 and 2-3 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host Rhode Island College next Tuesday. The Colonials host Bard Monday.
