BOSTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's tennis team won all six singles matches and defeated host UMass Boston, 8-1, in the final Little East Conference match of the regular season at the Boston College High School Tennis Courts Saturday.
The Corsairs had four double winners. Sophomore Mason Viau (Marion, MA/Bishop Hendricken HS/Connecticut), who teamed with senior Christoph Forster (Reading, MA/Reading HS) to defeat Paul Braude and Eric Livingstone at number one doubles, 8-2, downed Braude at number one singles, 6-2, 6-3. Forster defeated Amit Kumar at number five singles, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Troy Pandolfi (Danbury, CT) defeated Werner at number two singles, 6-3, 6-3; junior Ken Sims (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford HS) downed Anh-Phi Tran at number three singles, 6-7, 6-4, 6-2; and Pandolfi and Sims combined to defeat Ali Al-Sabbagh and Reinaldo Lopes at number two doubles, 8-0.
"It was a tougher match than I thought it would be," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Tom Mendell. "UMass Boston has a good team. We're looking forward to starting the playoffs on Tuesday with one of the better teams that we've had here in the past 10 years." Viau, Pandolfi and Sims all remained unbeaten in singles in Little East Conference play at 6-0.
UMass Dartmouth improved to 9-1 and 5-1 in the Little East Conference with the victory, while UMass Boston dropped to 3-9 and 2-4 with the defeat. The Corsairs will return to action when they host a first round match in the Little East Conference Tournament Tuesday afternoon.
