BETHLEHEM, PA-Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's track and field team ended their seasons on a strong note on the first day of action at the two-day Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Moravian College at the Timothy Breidegam Track Thursday.

In the men's javelin, freshman Joe Texeira (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk HS) finished ninth at 182 feet, six inches, while freshman Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) finished 12th at 180 feet, seven inches.

Junior Robert Yarbough (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) was scheduled to participate in the hammer throw, but inclement weather delayed his event, and it was rescheduled for Friday.

"Joe made the finals, and Brett just missed it by two feet," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "I'm pleased that two of our freshman student-athletes made the top 12 in this meet. Joe was a little disappointed with his throws, but not with his achievement, and the best throws of his life have all come this year. Brett has been consistent throughout the year, and he is looking forward to next year. It was a nice way for both of them to conclude the season."

The meet will conclude Friday.
