Perry is tied for fourth nationally in the long jump at 23 feet, 11 1/2 inches. He will long jump Friday at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, the triple jump competition begins at 11:00 a.m. Perry is tied for seventh nationally in the triple jump at 48 feet, 9 1/2 inches.
"For Phito, it's a great accomplishment, as a freshman, not only qualifying for nationals, but having the third best time in the country," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "He's run a lot of big meets, and he's faced a lot of the top runners in the Northeast, since many of the top teams come to BU (Boston University) to run, so he has faced a lot of good competition during the season. Chris missed the outdoor season last year due to an injury, so he had qualified in both seasons in which he has competed in college. He has improved this season. Last year, he got hurt on his first jump. It's an honor o qualify, so, hopefully, the experience he got last year will serve him well this year."
This meet marks the conclusion of the indoor season.
