NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Freshman Phito Gondre (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) and sophomore Chris Perry (Providence, RI/Dighton-Rehoboth HS/BCC) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track team have earned the final Little East Conference weekly awards of the indoor track season.
Perry was named LEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and Gondre was named LEC Men's Rookie Track Athlete of the Week after their performances at the NCAA Division III Championships last weekend.
Perry finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 23 feet, 5 1/2 inches and earned All-America honors, and finished 12th in the triple jump at 45 feet, three inches. Gondre finished fifth in the 60 meter dash in 6.875 seconds and also earned All-America honors.
"Chris really put his long jump together in the last couple of weeks, jumping over 23 feet in the last two championship meets and earning his first All-America award," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "Phito really stepped up as a freshman in his first national competition and delivered, getting through the trials and moving up to finish fifth, which capped an outstanding indoor track season."
The Corsairs will return to action when the outdoor season begins on March 31st.
