Three Earn LEC Track and Field Honors

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Three members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team have been honored by the Little East Conference.

Sophomore Adam Jones (Amesbury, MA/Triton Regional HS) has been named Little East Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week; junior Matt Hinthorne (Braintree, MA/Braintree HS) has been named LEC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while freshman Brandon Jarousky (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro HS) was named LEC Rookie Men's Track Athlete of the Week.

Jones tied for second at Saturday's Boston University Terrier Classic, high jumping 6-6 3/4 to break the school record. He never missed in the competition until he got to 6-8 3/4.

Hinthorne ran 800 meters in 1:55.04 on Saturday, breaking the school indoor record. He now holds both the UMD indoor and outdoor records.

Jarousky ran 200 meters in 22.73 seconds, the third fastest time in school history. That qualified him for the New England Division III, Open New England and Eastern College Athletic Conference championships.

"Adam had a great day Saturday, never missing until he got to 6-8 3/4," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "To come in second in a meet like that is quite an accomplishment, and his honor is well deserved. Matt now owns both the indoor and outdoor school records for the 800. He's ahead of where he was last year at this time, and he eventually placed in the Open New England Championships both indoors and outdoors. He is getting himself into condition to perform well at the conference championships. Brandon has been a real pleasant surprise to us this year as a freshman. He continues to improve each week, and has become a very valuable member of our team."

The Corsairs will return to action next Saturday at Tufts.
