NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA--Sophomore Adam Jones (Amesbury, MA/Triton Regional HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Jones has been named LEC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
Jones was the LEC and New England Alliance champion in the high jump, tying the meet record and setting a school record when he jumped 6-8 1/4. He subsequently broke the school record again, jumping 6-9 3/4 when he finished second at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships, and again when he finished fifth at the NCAA Division III Championships. His performance at the NCAAs earned him All-American honors.
"I'm very happy that Adam received this award," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "He was just a model of consistency throughout the year. Basically, he improved the height he was clearing from week to week and from month to month, culminating with his jumping 6-9 3/4 at the last two meets of the season. His award was well-deserved."
Jones and the Corsairs will begin outdoor action Saturday at Coast Guard.
