BOSTON-- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's track and field team competed in day two of the Open New England Championships at Boston University on Saturday.
Sophomore Ryan Hayes (Kingston, Mass.) placed eighth in the 1000-meter event with a finishing time of 2:31.73. On Friday, Hayes generated the fifth fastest time in the preliminary heats and marked a new UMass Dartmouth school record by covering the distance in 2:29.16.
In the high jump, freshman Kevin Cutler (Attleboro, Mass.) leaped 6-6.75 feet, while junior Adam Jones (Amesbury, Mass.) jumped the bar at 6-4.75 feet. Both competitors did not place in the meet. Back on Dec. 7, Cutler posted a mark of 6-10.75 feet at the UMass Boston Invitational to break Jones's previous school record of 6-9.75.
The Corsairs return to action on March 7 and 8, when they compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships.
