NEW LONDON, Conn. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's and women's track and field teams competed in the 2014 U.S. Coast Guard Academy Spring Invitational on Saturday. The men took eighth place in the 12-team field with 38 points, while the women placed 11th out of 13 teams.
Junior Adam Jones (Amesbury, Mass.) seized second in the high jump with a leap of 1.88m (6-02.00) and recorded a second place distance of 6.06m (19-10.75) in the long jump. Junior Jacob Texeira (Seekonk, Mass.) posted a time of 56.28 seconds in the 400m hurdles to earn second, while classmate Cody Lusas (Melrose, Mass.) heaved the disc 37.24m (122-02) to take home third place for the Corsairs.
Senior Christopher Jordan (Taunton, Mass.) registered a pair of eighth place finishes with a distance of 46.34m (152-00) in the javelin and a 5,000m time of 16:19.70. Freshman Paul Hamlet (Upton, Mass.) earned fifth when he tripped the timer at 52.20 seconds in the 400 meter, respectively.
For the women, sophomore Summer Jones (East Bridgewater, Mass.) received fourth place when she crossed the finish line in the 400m with 1:01.68 on the clock. Freshman Esther Nkwah (Roslindale, Mass.) propelled herself 10.62m (34-10.25) to capture fourth place in the triple jump and sophomore Barbara Okafor (Hyde Park, Mass.) recorded an eighth place finish in the 100m with a time of 13.09 seconds.
UMass Dartmouth returns to action on Saturday, April 5, when the Corsairs host their 2014 UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
