DELAWARE, Ohio -- University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, Mass./Dighton-Rehoboth) narrowly missed an opportunity to compete for All-America honors in the javelin event this afternoon on the final day of the 2014 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Shelby Stadium on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University.
Croteau unleashed his best throw of the national meet on his first attempt of the preliminary round, registering a mark of 59.12 meters (193-11). The senior from Rehoboth, Mass. tossed the spear 58.93 meters on his second attempt before completing the competition with a mark of 58.06. Croteau was edged for the ninth and final spot in the championship round by two centimeters as Muhlenberg sophomore Jordan Rosenthal secured the No. 9 seed with a throw of 59.14 meters (194-00).
Freshman Mitchell Obenrader captured the national championship with a mark of 67.01 meters (219-10).
