PAWTUCKET, RI. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth senior Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass.) was recognized by the Little East Conference office on Monday as the Field Athlete of the Week after sweeping the throwing events at this past weekend's Springfield College Maroon & White Classic. It was the second time this year he has earned the conference recognition.
Louf-Woods not only captured the top-spot, but separated himself from the field in impressive fashion. In the weight throw, he finished nearly two feet ahead of the closest competitor with a distance of 60-6.75 (18.46m). He then completed the throwing-sweep, running away with his second victory of the year in the shot put with a distance of 48-1.25 (14.66m), putting him a foot ahead of the second-place finisher.
The honor comes a week removed from his last, as the senior was named the Division III Men's Athlete of the Week as voted by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on January 16th.
Jared has already punched his ticket to his first appearance in the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, sitting atop the national weight throw rankings with his season-best distance of 61-9.5 (18.83m) which was set on January 13th at the Tufts Invitational. In the shotput, his 48-4.75 (14.75m) places him inside the top-50 in the country.
The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Track and Field team continues its season on Friday January 26th when it heads to Boston University for the John Thomas Invitational.
