DURHAM, NH- Two members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's track and field team tuned up for next weekend's Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Championships with their performances at the Open New England Championships at the University of New Hampshire's Reggie F. Atkins Track Saturday afternoon.
Senior Chris Jodoin (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS/Maine) finished fifth in the 400 meter hurdles in a personal best time of 54.78 seconds, while senior Eric Holmes (Abington, MA/ Abington HS) came in at 10:11.62 in the 3000 meter steeplechase after a mishap during the race.
"Chris showed what he was capable of," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jon Hird. "He didn't get off to a good start, but is capable of winding up at nationals if he can get his stride back down. It gave us an idea of what's possible. Eric was running very well in the steeplechase, but he got pushed from behind coming up to one of the barriers on the second or third lap, which caused him to go over the barrier and he tweaked his leg,. His leg started to tighten up on him, and he had to just jog it in. He was right on pace until he got pushed."
Jodoin, Holmes and the rest of the Corsairs will return to action at the New England Division III Championships at Springfield next weekend.
