Feb. 20, 2010

LEWISTON, ME-Three members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's track and field team scored points and three just missed scoring at the New England Division III Championships at Bates' Merrill Gymnasium Saturday.

Senior J.T. Harold (North Andover, MA/Austin Prep) finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 22 feet, 6 ¼ inches. Sophomore Kevin Gilmore (Hanson, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) was sixth at 5000 meters in 15:34.51, and sophomore Hymlaire Lamisere (Newton, MA/Newton North HS/Iona) was seventh at 55 meters in 6.68 seconds after winning his preliminary heat in 6.60 seconds, a personal best time that qualified him for the Open New England Championships. UMass Dartmouth finished with 10 points.

Freshman Kaylin Miranda (Brighton, MA/O'Bryant HS), sophomore Robert Yarbough (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) and junior Kevin Markie (North Attleboro, MA/North Attleboro HS/Nichols) each finished ninth in their respective events, and just missed scoring. Miranda long jumped 21 feet, 5 ¼ inches, Yarbough threw the shot 44 feet, 9 ½ inches, and Markie triple jumped 43 feet, 10 1.2 inches.

"We had a decent day," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "We brought the most people we have ever brought to this meet, and with a young team, three people scored and three more were on the cusp of scoring. Everyone was hoping to make the finals and score. Steps like this will help us grow our program."

The Corsairs will return to action when they travel to the Open New England Championships next weekend.
