CAMBRIDGE, MA-Three members of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's outdoor track and field teams scored on the first day of action at the New England Division III Championships, hosted by MIT at Steinbrenner Stadium Friday.
In the javelin, freshman Brett Croteau (Rehoboth, MA/Dighton-Rehoboth HS) threw a personal best of 182 feet, 10 inches and finished third overall. Freshman Joe Texeira (Seekonk, MA/Seekonk, HS) finished seventh at 181 feet, and the Corsairs were the only team with two people placing in the javelin.
At 10,000 meters, senior Nick Santoro (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's HS/Merrimack) finished seventh in 32:23.49 in his final race at UMass Dartmouth.
"It was nice to see Brett throw his personal best at this point in the year, and it was good to see that we were the only team with two people placing in that event," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. "I'm happy for them. Nick did everything he could in his race, and he hung with the top group until there were four laps left, and they separated themselves from the rest of the field at that point. It was a good race for Nick to end his career on. He has been with us for two years, and he will be missed."
The meet will conclude Saturday.
